New Florida regulations require tax representatives to be licensed in order to represent property owners before the Value Adjustment Board (VAB). The law went into effect July 1, 2016.
As we reported following the passage of the law, CS/CS/HB 499 makes multiple changes to the Florida Taxpayer Bill of Rights.
The change to Statute 194.034 requires tax representatives to either be a corporate employee of the company or be licensed as:
A real estate broker
Or a CPA
Licensing is required to sign a petition before the VAB and to give expert witness regarding the value of a property under appeal.
If a tax representative does not have the proper license, the property owner's appeal can be denied. That's why it's important to check the credentials of your representative.
