POER's Jay Belinfante Talks Obsolescence at the Council on State Taxation 2022 Property Tax Workshop in Denver

 

 

We are proud to announce that POER’s Jay Belinfante has been chosen to present and discuss his insights on the topic of obsolescence at the Council on State Taxation (COST) 2022 Property Tax Workshop held in cooperation with the International Property Tax Institute (IPTI) at the Grand Hyatt Denver in Denver, CO on September 13-15.

Obsolescence and Assessors Push for Special Valuation Methods for
Certain Types of Properties (e.g., Big Box Stores)

 

State and local property tax assessors utilize tables that supposedly reflect (or do they?) both depreciation and obsolescence. Often that obsolescence fails to reflect reality and the presenters in this session will discuss proactive ways to demonstrate reductions for obsolescence. Additionally, the issues with assessors seeking to limit comparable sales and other valuation methods with certain types of property will be discussed (both litigation and legislation).
