Company History - "Exceeding Expectations"

Marvin F. Poer and Company has grown by maintaining a focus on meeting our clients' needs. This steadfast focus has enabled us to become a recognized leader in our industry with:

Time Line - "Now and Then"

2006
POER opens its 16th office in St. Louis, Missouri. This expansion enables POER to better serve client’s property in the Missouri Valley region with our continued commitment to world-class value. 

2005
Former Dallas Chief Appraiser, Foy Mitchell, joins POER's Dallas office.

POER proactively responds to Sarbanes-Oxley by attaining the Type 2 SAS 70 Report, verifying our internal control procedures, giving clients an extra-added level of comfort in the wake of Sarbanes-Oxley's Section 404.

2004
POER expands Integrated Complex Property Solutions with addition of Fixed Asset Management Services (FAMS) by bringing into the POER family the highly experienced and respected team of FAMS specialists formerly known as Cunningham Consulting.

2003
POER unveils new and improved website, expanding client's ability to get direct, personalized and secure information about their property tax portfolios through Client Connect - CIS & RePoertNet

2001
Client Information Services (CIS) new release presented to all clients with new GUI style navigation and other upgrades.

2000
RePoertNet is released providing clients on-line reporting capability to print standard reports and download data to create custom reports.

1998
Bill DuBois accepts Marvin's request to become POER's President and Chief Operating Officer. Marvin continues as our CEO and Chairman of the Board.

1997
POER focuses on niche markets expanding our industry specific staff experts in industries of complex manufacturing, large regional shopping centers, retail and multi-purpose complex properties. These "centers of expertise" compliment our LOCAL consultants by strengthening our NATIONAL resources while maintaining our LOCAL presence.

1995
POER adds capability to pay clients' property tax bills with Tax Bill Payment Service and electronic check writing system.

1992
We introduce a new software system to handle personal property compliance process from initial data acquisition through tax bill payment. This software called "PPS" improves the process efficiency and increases our clients' profits by reducing unit costs.

1991
Marvin Poer's personal initiative led to founding of the National Council of Property Taxation that promotes professionalism in the property tax consulting industry. Today this organization is a leader in promoting the professionalism, ethics and conduct of our industry.

Our vision to be close to the communities we serve leads to a second Florida office in Ft. Lauderdale.

Client Information Services (CIS) - an on-line direct access system is introduced giving
clients immediate and real time tax data.

1990
To keep our leadership and consultants LOCAL to clients, three geographic operating units
are defined led by Bill DuBois, Eastern Group; Nick Muros, Western Group; and Ken Parsons, Southern Group.

1988
The quarterly newsletter, the POER Report, is developed to deliver timely tax information
to commercial taxpayers. Originally sent to 4,000 companies, the POER Report now has a circulation of 10,000 each quarter. Over 450,000 issues have been distributed since its inception.

1986
Denver, CO office opens serving Colorado, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming.

1985
Our ability to be close to Northeast clients radically changes with expansion of our
Washington DC operation with new offices and staff in New York City and Boston, MA.

1984
Texas client and property base grows dramatically and POER opens our third Texas office
in San Antonio continuing the vision to be close to our clients.

1983
First Florida office opens in Miami and later moves to its current location in Orlando.

1982
A year of significant expansion and growth; POER opens three new offices in Houston, TX, Phoenix, AZ and Seattle, WA.

1980
POER becomes the first privately owned state & local tax firm to link all offices electronically
to better serve clients nationwide.

1979
Marvin creates a national full-time professional sales team. He was the first to have
dedicated business development professionals in the property tax industry.

1978
Washington, DC office opens in suburban Fairfax, Virginia. Marvin's first five local offices
are strategically located to realize the vision to provide National resources with Local
presence to our clients.

1976
Marvin and Jim incorporate the firm as Marvin F. Poer and Company.

Los Angeles, California becomes POER's fourth office placing the company close to its client base in the far West.

1974
Chicago, Illinois office opens in the Western suburb of Oak Brook.

1970
First satellite office opens in Atlanta, Georgia and Marvin's vision of staying close to his
clients' locale moves towards reality.

1968
J. D. (Jim) O'Quinn joins Marvin as a partner in Dallas.

1964
Marvin Poer establishes his new company in Dallas, Texas with the entrepreneurial spirit to serve his clients with the ethics, excellence and down-home personal respect he learned growing up on a ranch in east Texas. His vision was to create something never done before - to grow a national full-service property tax consulting firm.
